Dermal Fillers
Following your dermal filler treatment some common injection related reaction may occur:
- Redness- Any redness should decrease over 6/24 hour period. A clean, light make-up can be applied to cover any redness approximately 4 hours post treatment.
- Swelling- do not expose the treated area to intense heat or to extreme cold for two weeks following treatment. An anti-inflammation musk such as Cliniccare EGF Pure mask or clean cool pack can be applied directly to the treated area. Non-prescription anti-inflammatories may prove useful in the reduction of swelling so long as you are medically suitable to take them. However , bruising may be enhanced and/or prolonged with the use of anti- inflammatories.
- Bruising- dermal filler injections can cause areas of bruising although this would not normally be expected to occur, the eye contour being the area at most risk. Any such bruising will be temporary. If you are taking any medication or dietary supplement that can affect platelet function and bleeding time , the severity and period of bruising can be extended. Be aware that taking aspirin or similar medication may increase the likelihood of bruising. Cebelia LCE Balm , Arnica cream and / or tables can help to minimise and solve bruising more quickly. Make-up can be applied to cover bruising approximately 4 hours post treatment.
- Tenderness or discomfort at injection site for 24-72 hours following treatment – non-prescription analgesia can be taken.
- Itching may occur for 7-14 days following treatment – Non – prescription anti-histamines may alleviate any itching.
These sensation will usually typically resolve within days and many people are able to return to their normal activities the same day. Some people may react differently and may experience these reactions for longer. However , these reactions are temporary and typically resolve within 7-14 days as the skin returns to normal.
Some more advice:
- Refrain from touching the treated areas with your hands until the pores have had chance to close. This is to reduce the risk of infection at the site of injection.
- Make up can be applied approximately 4 hours post treatment – mineral is recommend.
- It is recommended that the use of soap , other than those recommended by your practitioner , on the treated skin areas is restricted until the redness subsidies and where possible warm / tepid water and / or gentle skin cleansers are used for cleansing. Do not scrub. Pat to dry only.
- Refrain from intensive sun light ( e. g. sun beds and sunbathing ) , sauna , steam or bath for a period of at least 2 weeks.
- Avoid electrolysis , waxing , bleaching of treated area for 72 hours.
- Do not swim in chlorinated water for approximately 14 days.

It is advisable to remove this as soon as you get home to allow the laser area to dry and heal naturally .
- It is a good idea to apply another sterile non-stick dressing before going to bed to prevent inadvertent rubbing or scratching of the treated area whilst asleep. The Melolin dressings are available from Boots the Chemists.

- Avoid irritants such as Retin-A , Retinol , Renova, glycolics, bleaching creams and exfoliants for at least two weeks.
- Only drink soft drinks no alcohol for 3-7 days ( alcohol may dilate blood vessels in the treatment area).
- Keep well hydrated.
- It is best to avoid smoking for a period of several weeks before and after your treatment , as smoking constricts the capillaries and taxes the immune system, thereby slowing healing and results .

Plasma Skin Tightening
You may experience a burning/hot sensation after the treatment, so you may need to apply a cooling pack to help the discomfort. If it is particularly painful or persists for a while, you can take anti-inflammatory medication to help. Clients need to keep the area clean and dry, and you can apply make up 24 hours after the treatment. Do not expose your skin to particularly hot or cold temperatures, and you will need to protect the treated area with sunscreen until it is healed. The scabs will usually fall off within 7-10 days, and new fresh pink skin will be visible. You must not pick at the scabs or you may risk scarring or infection. There is very minimal downtime and clients can go about their daily activities as normal. You may wish for someone to drive for you on the day if you have had an upper eyelid procedure.
CO2 Fractional laser
1. Immediately after treatment, most patients will experience a clinical endpoint of erythema (redness) for 1-3 days, however for more aggressive treatments this may last for several weeks. Slight to moderate edema (swelling) and a mild to moderate sunburn sensation are also common post treatment and may last 1-3 days. After the second day, skin will appear as an exaggerated tan. Skin will begin to flake at 5-7 days on the face and neck; 7-10 days for the chest; and 10-14 for the hands.
2. Your provider may opt to use additional cooling methods such as cool compresses, gel packs or facial mask for up to 10 minutes after treatment.
3. Before discharge a topical ointment (like vaseline or Aquaphor) may be applied to the face, no bandages or wraps are necessary
4. For more aggressive treatments, your provider may prescribe the use of vinegar soaks to be applied multiple times a day. Do the soaks for 20 to 30 minutes at a time. You should find the soaks to be soothing. If tne solution is irritating for some reason, the vinegar may be diluted by half (one half a tablespoon of vinegar to one cup of water). The soaks should be repeated 6 times per day, until the skin is fully epithelialized.
5. You provider will inform you when you may resume the use of your usual skin care products.
6. There are no restrictions on bathing except to treat the skin gently, avoid scrubbing or trauma to the treated area, as if you had sunburn.
7. Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation (darker pigmentation).
8. The use of a zinc oxide sun block SPF 30+ at all times throughout the course of treatment is recommended.
9. Multiple treatments (3 or more) over a period of several months may be required to achieve the desired response. You may notice immediate as well as longer term improvements in your skin.
10. Patients must not pick scabs – these should be covered with ointment to avoid itching.
11. Scabs will fall off naturally within 10-14 days.
12. After the scabs fall off there may be some hyper-pigmentation which will resolve within a few weeks to a few months. Patients can be prescribed additional skin care system as home to use to combat post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.
